这两个词都有“影响”的意思。
1）affect vt. 作“影响”讲时可分三种情况：
直接的、有形的力量作用于某事物或事件并使之发生变化。
例：they try to affect the size of a crop by using fertilizer.
他们施肥料以使庄稼长大。
用于表示对某事物或事产生不好的影响。
例：exposure to intense light affects one’s eyes adversely.
暴露在强光之下会损害眼睛。
指对另外一个人感情上的影响，感染，感动。
例：music affects some people very strongly.
**对一些人有强烈的感染力。
he was much affected at the sad sight.
他深为这一悲伤的情景所感动。
2）influence通常指“不易觉察到的、潜移默化的影响”，往往是间接的，通过说服或以实际行动树立榜样而对他人产生影响。
例：he was influenced by a middle school teacher to take up the study of medicine.
他受到一位中学教师的影响而学了医。
affect 表示影响的意思时，是指产生一种足以引起反映的影响，他有时只表示对。。。发生影响，不含有好坏的意思；有时表示对……发生不良影响。例如：
it does not affect me in the least. 这对我毫不发生影响。
the climate affected his health. 气候影响了他的健康。
influence 表示影响、感染的意思时，是指使思想、行为、性质或发展和成长等发生变化的影响。它可以指坏的影响，也可以指好的影响，这种影响常常是潜移默化的。例如：
don't be influenced by bad examples．不要受坏样子的影响。
the weather influences the crops．天气影响农作物。
the labour enthusiasm of the workers strongly influenced us．工人们的劳动热情强烈地感染了我们。
4) -ing分词作定语：
单个的分词作定语一般放在被修饰词的前面。如：
reading room 阅览室 swimming pool 游泳池 dining car 餐车 sleeping car 卧车 singing competition 歌咏比赛 waiting room 候车室 a waiting car 一辆等待着的车 a sleeping child一个酣睡的孩子 flying fish 飞鱼 the exciting news令人振奋的消息 a boring speech令人乏味的演出。
分词作定语，修饰名词，相当于一个定语从句。
1．作前置修饰语
分词作定语，修饰名词，可作前置修饰语和后置修饰语。前置修饰语可以是单个分词，也可以是分词与副词、形容词或名词后构成合成形容词。
注：现在分词还可以放在副词、形容词或名词后构成合成被动结构，作前置修饰语。过去分词也可以跟在副词、名词后构成合成形容词，作前置饰语。
