现代汉语的音节由声母、韵母、和声调组成。声母是汉语音节开头的辅音。现代汉语共有21个声母。

韵母是声母后边的部分，共有38个。现代汉语普通话的音节有四个基本声调，声调有区别意义的作用。例如：

bā,b是声母，a是韵母，声调是第一声。有些音节只有韵母，没有声母，叫零声母音节，如ā（啊）。

a syllable(音节) in the modern chinese is composed of an initial,afinal and a initial is a consonant that begins a syllable,andthe final is the part that follows it .there are altogether 21 initialsand38finalsinthemodernchinese..forexample,inbā,b is the initial ,a is the final,and the syllable is in the know as zero initial syllables,which contain no initials butonly finals,such asā.

一)声母initials:b p m f

声母的发音pronunciation of the initials

和spat中的p类似，但不同于bat中的b(likethepinspat,notthebin bat)

和pat中的p相同，都有较强的送气（asthepinpat,butwithmuchstrongeraspiration）

和mat中的m相同（as the m in mat）和fat中的f相同（as the f in fat）
