1、仔细看题，注意要求。这是做好任何题目的前提，而动词填空往往要求得很详细、很具体，所以我们有必要明确这类题目的要求。只有按照要求去做题，才有可能把题目做好。
2、通读全文 /句，了解大意。只有通读全文 /句，明了大意，才能做到心中有全局，统一考虑所选动词的含义、时态、语态及其变化形式等是否符合文章的意思。
3、看清动词，理解词义。 动词有时放在短文之前，有时放在短文后或短文中空格的后面。 若动词放在短文前或后，就应先读短文再看动词，看懂每个动词的意思。
若有个别动词的词义不懂， 就把它暂放下， 等填空时结合上下文的意思再把它填上。 另外， 在做填空的过程中， 应注意词组或短语的搭配，有些动词和另外的词搭配在一起后可能产生新的意义。
在做题的过程中，供选择的动词数目有时多于所填写的空格数，也可能二者数目相等。在选择动词时先选熟悉的有把握的动词，再将不熟悉的动词联系上下文进行比较，推测词义，排除不合适的词。
4、最后，进行细致地检查。
