前言。为协助2023年（上半年）参加mets考试的考生复习、备考，较系统地进行医护专业英语学习，mets考试办公室组织国内外专家根据mets考试大纲编写了《2023年（上半年）mets考试复习资料》，旨在通过精读课文讲解练习，语法写作分析，考试技巧等内容的学习，使考生对专业英语学习产生兴趣并在一定时间内提高专业英语的水平。
建议考点英语教研室在教学过程中部分使用考试复习资料中的内容，有的放矢地进行辅导工作。

第一课。课文。
blood
blood is carried from the heart to all parts of the body in arteries. its pressure is the force of the blood pushing against the walls of the arteries. each time the heart beats, it pumps out blood into the arteries.
when the heart beats and pumps the blood, the blood pressure rises. at the moment the blood pressure is at its highest. and it is called systolic pressure.
when the heart is at rest between beats, the blood pressure falls. then it is called the diastolic pressure. when the two measurements are written down, the systolic pressure is the first or top number, and the diastolic pressure is the second or bottom number.
blood pressure changes during the day. it is at its lowest as you sleep and rises when you get up. it will also rise when you are excited, nervous, or active.
however, for most of your waking hours, your blood pressure stays much the same when you are sitting or standing still. that level should be lower than 120/80 mmhg. when the level stays high, 140/90 or higher, you h**e high blood pressure.
with high blood pressure, your chances of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are greater.

课文注释。1． blood is carried from the heart to all parts of the body in arteries.
血液是通过动脉由心脏送往人体所有部位。
本句使用被动语态，在科技文章中，被动语态使用频率相对较大。另外，本句的时态为一般现在时，通常用来表示一般性、规律性的事实或现象，也可表示客观真理。本句叙述的就是客观事实。
2． its pressure is the force of the blood pushing against the walls of the arteries.
血压就是血液对于动脉壁的推力。
注意主语its pressure中代词的用法。中文相比英文，代词使用频率要低得多。而英文语篇的连贯性则往往通过使用代词来体现。
因此，写英文句子的时候应该注意这个特点。比如：
we are doing our homework.
我们在做家庭作业。
一般来说，我们的学生在用英文翻译“我们在做家庭作业。”这样的句子时，容易漏掉形容词性物主代词our。
3． when the two measurements are written down, the systolic pressure is the first or top number, and the diastolic pressure is the second or bottom number. 把两个测量值写下来，收缩压是第一数值或高值，舒张压是第二数值或低值。
注意，序数词first、second等前要用定冠词。
学习建议：学完课文以后，可以试着把课文译文翻译成英文，再与课文对照，以加深对课文的理解和对语言点的掌握。

阅读点津。应试技巧：“对错题”
对于大多数客观性考试来说，阅读题主要题型是选择题。对于选择题，学生应坚信，解题信息一定包含在文章之中。
然而，即使是选择题，其类型也是多种多样的。本课阅读题采用类似国际英语考试雅思中常见的“对错题”题型，难度比一般选择题要大，稍不留意就容易做错。
下面介绍此类题型的应对策略：
由于题干本身就是逻辑完整的句子，我们坚信题干信息一定包含在文章之中，关键问题是解题信息（即解题依据）在文章中如何定位。我们可以尝试通过在题干中寻找关键信息词的方法来准确定位文章中的解题信息。如本课阅读理解第1题，其关键信息是systolic pressure、highest-test pressure，我们据此可定位答题依据：
at the moment the blood pressure is at its highest. and it is called systolic pressure. 因此a 为正确答案。
请特别注意阅读理解第5题，答题关键在于仔细比对题干信息“people with high blood pressure will die of heart attack.”与课文信息“with high blood pressure, your chances of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are greater.”，显然，两者之间存在着差异。
这种“试错题”题型，确实有一定的难度，稍不留意就容易做错。
由此可见，做阅读理解题，关键是要找到文章中的解题信息。同学们还可以检验课文后的其他阅读题，看看是不是这么回事。至于如何快速准确地找到解题信息，当然是有技巧的，我们需要在以后几课中深入**。
课文译文。血液。
血液通过动脉由心脏送往人体所有部位。血压即血液对于动脉壁的推力。每当心脏跳动，它泵出的血液就会进入动脉。
而心脏跳动，泵出血液，血压就会升高。此刻，血压处于最高值。此时的血压称为收缩压。
当心脏处于两次心跳之间时，血压就会下降。这时的血压称为舒张压。把两个测量值写下来，收缩压是第一数值或高值，舒张压是第二数值或低值。
一天中，血压一直在变化。最低点出现在睡眠时，起床后，血压上升。兴奋，紧张，或活动时，血压也会上升。
不过，醒来后大多数时间，只要坐着或站着并保持安静，血压就保持不变。此时，血压应低于120/80毫米汞柱。当血压保持较高的水平，140/90或更高，你的血压就偏高。
随着血压升高，出现中风，心脏病及肾脏疾病的可能性要大得多。
翻译要诀。关注英汉不同思维方式。
对于mets一级的学生来说，掌握一些基本的英汉翻译能力是必要的。这不仅是应试的需要，对于医学英语学习本身也大有益处。因为翻译的过程涉及英汉对比分析，可以帮助我们注意到英汉不同的思维表达模式。
