句子的组成部分叫做句子成分。总的说来，句子分为主语部分和谓语部分；具体说来，分为主语、谓。
语、表语、宾语（直接宾语，间接宾语，复合宾语）、补足语、定语、状语、同位语和独立成分。
英语词类：一种是可以在句子中独立担任成分的实词，即名词、代词、动词、数词、形容词和副词；另一种是不能。
在句子中独立担任成分的虚词， 即冠词、介词、连词和感叹词。
英语句子成分与词类的关系：
主语多由名词、代词等担任； 谓语由动词或动词短语充当；
表语位于系动词之后，多由名词或形容词充当； 宾语分为动宾和介宾，由名词或代词充当；
宾补或主补是用来补充说明宾语或主语的，多由形容词、名词等充当；
定语是用来修饰名词或代词的，多由形容词充当；状语修饰动词或全句，多由副词充当；

在复合句中充当主语的句子叫做主语从句。在复合句中充当表语的句子叫做表语从句。
在复合句中充当宾语的句子叫做宾语从句。在复合句中充当同位语的句子叫做同位语从句。
以上4种从句也叫名词性从句。
在复合句中充当定语的句子叫做定语从句， 也叫形容词性从句。
在复合句中充当状语的句子叫做状语从句，也叫副词性从句。
