raise 有提高、增加的意思
rise只是位置上的增高例如sun就要用rise而不是raise，而salary就要用raise
raise还有另一个意思是表扬
rise也有另一个意思就是起义。
raise和rise作为动词最根本的区别是，rise是不及物动词，而raise是及物动词。如， to raise salaries 提高工资 the sun rises. 太阳升起
这两个词除了提高、升高、抬起等意思外都各自还有其它的用法。
例如 raise 招募：to raise an army 养育、栽培：to raise a family 提出（一个问题）：to raise a question等等。
rise: 起床、站起来：to rise from table （餐毕）起立离桌发源于：the river rhine rises in switzerland
此外rise还有晋升；顶嘴等意思，1)raise vt. “举起，升高”。指把东西升高些或促使某物上升。
please raise your hand when you know the answer.你知道问题答案就请举手。
2)rise vi.“上升”，指向上走动或移动，如河水**等。
the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.太阳从东方升起，西方落下。
rise还可作“起床，起身”解。he rise early.他起得早。
2 advise , suggest
advise与suggest 都可作“建议”讲，二者用法有同有异。
1) 相同点都可表示建议做某事， advise与suggest后面都可接名词/动名词/ that从句（should加动词原形，should可以省略）。例如：
他建议（我们）再等一会儿。
he advised/ suggested waiting a bit longer.
he advised/ suggested (our) waiting a bit longer.
he advised/ suggested that we (should) wait a bit longer.
上面的第三句可转化为：
it was suggested that we (should) wait a bit longer.
what he suggested was that we (should) wait a bit longer.
his suggestion was that we (should) wait a bit longer.
2)不同点。
advise后可以直接跟人称代词作宾语，如：advise sb. to do sth.
; advise sb. against (doing) sth.; advise sb.
on/ about sth.; 而suggest后一般用suggest sb that …形式。
如：他建议我们改天再来。[正]he advised us to come another day.
误]he suggested us to come another day.
误]he suggested us that we come another day.
suggest还有“暗示、表明、指出（一个事实）”的意思。此时从句中用陈述语气，不用虚拟语气。如：
her expression suggested pleasure. 她面露喜色。
his silence could only suggest disapproval. 他的沉默只能暗示反对。
/ fit / suit
用在衣服上可以认为fit是大小合适，suit是颜色合适，match是都合适。
fit 指大小、形状的合适，引申为吻合、协调。suit 指合乎需要、口味、条件、地位，以及花色、款式等与某人的**、气质、身材或身份相称。match 多指大小、色调、形状、性质等的搭配。
this new jacket fits her well . 这件夹克很合她的身。
对比：this new jacket suits her beautifully . 这件夹她穿着真漂亮。
that color suits you best .
try the new key and see if it fits the keyhole .
does this time suit you ?
no dish suits all tastes .
当表示“使……适合”的意思时，fit 常与 for 连用；suit 常与 to 连用。

adjust 指“调整”、“调节”使之适应， 如： you can't see through the telescope until it is adjusted to your eyes. 你把望远镜调节到适合你的目光之后， 你才看得见。
fit 多指“大小适合”, 引伸为“吻合”, 如： the shoes fit me well. 这鞋我穿正好。
suit 多指“合乎要求、 口味、性格、情况”, 如： no dish suits all tastes. 众口难调。
match 指“大小、色调、形状、性质等相配或相称”, 如： a red jacket doesn't match green trousers.红上衣与绿裤子不相配。
和supply用法比较。
provide指有远见，为应付意外、紧急情况等作好充分准备而“供给、提供”，可用于provide sb.（with sth.）或provide sth.
（for sb.）结构。
he persuaded other people to provide money or to give help.他说服别人提供钱或给予帮助。
the school provided food for the students. 学校为学生提供伙食。
they provided us with all the books we need.他们为我们提供所需要的所有书籍。
supply通常指定期“**”，强调替代或补充所需物品，常用于supply sb. with sth.或supply sth. to sb.结构。
the cars will be supplied to people all over the country.这些汽车将**给全国各地的人们。
cows supply us with milk. 母牛供给我们牛奶。
in britain milk is supplied to each house in bottles.在英国牛奶是装在瓶子里送往每家每户的。
offer侧重表示“愿意给予”，常用于offer sb. sth.或offer to do sth. 结构，后不能接宾语从句。
she offered me a cup of tea. 她给我端了杯茶。
he offered to go instead of me. 他主动提出代替我去。
provide不如supply常用，但前者可跟双宾语，而后者无此用法。有时它们可互换，可说provide/supply sth. to sb.
，也可说provide/supply sb. with sth.。
the bank provided/supplied him with a loan $100,000.银行为他提供了10万美元的贷款。
