managing director/md：很多****（limited company）的主要执行官（chief executive）。职能（role）既是董事会（board of directors）成员（member），又是高级经理（senior manager）。
在比较大的机构（organization）中，它也可能指某个主要业务部门（major business unit）的主管（head）。在英国，股份****（public limited company）、慈善机构（charity）及行政机构（executive agency）中的高级执行官（senior executive）通常叫chief executive，而其下属（subsidiary）中的主管则通常叫managing director。职责（roles and responsibilities）包括：

executive director：机构或公司的高级经理或执行官。职能类似ceo或md。

board chairman/chair/chairperson：选举产生（elected），领导（lead）董事会，主持（perside）会议，达成共识（consensus）等。具有很高的受托责任（fiduciary responsibility），监督（oversee）公司运行（operation）。
在美国，该词与president可互换使用。ceo有时也是执行主席（executive chairman），但目前倾向于职能分开（separation of functions）以改善公司治理（corporate governance）。似可翻译为董事会主席、董事局主席等。
president：ceo下面最高级的**。如果没有ceo，他就是最**员。
直接对董事会负责（answerable/accountable），通常也是董事会成员。主要负责日常管理，而ceo更具战略眼光（visionary）。似可翻译为总裁、总经理等。
general manager/gm：常见于餐饮酒店娱乐行业（hospitality industry），对一个企业或机构负总责（overall responsibility）。经理（manager）可能负责某个职能部门（functional area），而gm负责所有职能领域，主要包括战略规划（strategic planning）与控制收入（revenue）与成本（cost），也叫盈亏责任（profit & loss responsibility）。
按照情况可有不同称呼。似可翻译为总经理、首席执行官、总裁等。
administrator：类似gm或company secretary。有点儿老派，但如果使用administration一词指行政管理等，可用这个词指公司高管。
